Bannister Takes Hill For Royals

Posted by: Casey on June 3, 2009.

A surprise performance so far this year has been from Brian Bannister who is getting back to his 2007 form in which he was a high candidate for the Rookie Of The Year honors. He’s been fairly good so far this year, with a couple starts that haven’t gone very well, including his last one.

I still remember his first win in the bigs, it was at Tampa and he pitched 8 innings very well. I remember thinking him and Greinke were going to be great for us in the near future. Well he had a poor year last year, but seems to have it put together better this year.

The Royals have struggled to score runs in the 5-17 stretch, and have squandered a good start to the season from the pitching staff. I like the complexion of this team when they have confidence and they are hitting the ball well. Jose Guillen hit Sonnanstine deep 3 times, one of which got out. I thought he hit the last one hard enough, but his lack of power to the opposite field always surprises me. Nevertheless, he’s been hitting the ball well. We could use a big night from our bats, and maybe even some Soria time to rally the troops.

Royals Continue To Be Painful To Watch

Well, I decided to start this post in the top of the 7th because the Royals had just gave up a two-run double for a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the 6th. Davies had some ups and downs, but ended up walking 6 batters, and is charged for 4 ER.

The Royals faced off against a pitcher on the brink of being demoted, due to his awful start to the 2009 campaign. Andy Sonnanstine entered the game with a 7+ ERA, and he pitched 6.2 innings, giving up two solo home runs to Jose Guillen and Miguel Olivo.

I have some real problems with the way that this team is being managed during the games and how the roster has been managed recently. Today, instead of starting Luis Hernandez, who is hitting .345 in 16 AB against Sonnanstine, by far the most any KC player had faced the Rays righty. Not only was he not in the lineup, but the player who replaced him is Tony Pena Jr., who entered the game with a .000 BA in 2009, and was activated from the DL today.

I hope that I have to re-write this post because we score 2-3 runs, but I don’t see it happening. The winning mentality is gone. The confidence is gone.

Royals Begin 3-Series Road Trip

Posted by: Casey on June 2, 2009.

Remember when the Royals were in first place at 18-11? Well, over the next 21 games, they went 5-16, now sitting at 23-27, 5.5 games behind the Tigers. The best is yet to come, as a difficult June schedule begins tuesday with a trip to Tampa for the Defending AL Champs. Well, the Rays haven’t been as stellar as they were last year, so hopefully we can take two or three from them.

Coco will not be available for yet another series, as he was put on bereavement due to the death of his great grandmother.

After 3 games in Tampa, we fly up to Canada to play the Blue Jays, then on to Cleveland.

That’s a 9 game road trip, how do you think the Royals will fair?
