Royals Lose 5th Straight, Continue Trend

Guillen Shows Off The Hustle

Royals go 5-20, win 4 straight, lose 5 straight. That’s been how the last month+ has gone for the Royals. I think inconsistency is going to happen with a team that struggles as much on defense as this team does. However, we can’t continue playing the “we’re a young team” card any longer. This team isn’t a young team. There are some spots that are young, but it’s mostly veterans. We can’t continue to make excuses for how poorly this organization has performed.

I had been okay with Dayton Moore’s work for the most part up until this offseason. I wasn’t happy with acquiring Coco and Jacobs. This team was suppose to be built around pitching and defense, and we didn’t help our pitching staff this offseason. We certainly didn’t help our team defense, either. I’ve also been amazed at the lack of speed that this team has.

Hopefully we can start to play some better baseball, and more consistent baseball. Keep your heads up Royals fans, there will come a day when all of this pain and agony will turn into joy, I hope.

Royals Salvage Hope In St. Louis

Just when we thought the season was over, the Royals give us another glimmer of hope. They went from an awful first two games, basically heading towards disaster, to now making me feel a little better about this team. While I’d like to drink the Kool-Aid and not realize the fact that this team has serious problems, the fact of the matter is this team is in trouble.

So far we’ve seen two sides of this team, one side that goes 18-11 in April, and another team that’s lose 11 of 15, including 1 out of the last 8 road games. The pitching leads the league, and has for the most part been consistent, but obviously there have been severe inconsistencies on offense. I do still feel good about this team when they are clicking. DeJesus is struggling, Teahen is struggling, Callaspo is a butcher in the field and his average is barely above .300 all the sudden and Coco continues to struggle.

It was nice to have Bannister give us a good start, and even when he gave up a couple of runs, he didn’t let it explode. It was great to see our bullpen back into old form. The biggest moment of the game was Bloomquist hustling for a double, then Jacobs hitting him in for the go-ahead run off Piniero right after the Cards tied it up. We are now 6-0 in games that Bloomquist has started at short stop. Really he would have been toast if Rasmus wasn’t such a lazy bum. I’ll take it though.

I would also like to applaud Hillman for how he handled the team and the game situations on sundays game. He did a very solid job, which is what we should expect every game.

Royals Lose 4th Straight, Continue To Struggle

Posted by: Casey on May 24, 2009.

The Royals were shut out for the second day in a row against the Cardinals on saturday. Hopefully they can win today with Bannister going to the mound.

Meanwhile, Hochevar was moved back down to the farm, which is a ridiculous decision in my eyes. He just had his best start of the year, and that’s without an offense that did anything to help him out. Also, Avilles and Tejeda were put on the DL, which brings up Bale, Colon and a new infielder, Tug Hulett. He primarily plays second, but my guess is he’ll get some time at SS as well.

The bottom line is this, the Royals need to start scoring. The offense has to come around. Will update more thoroughly tomorrow, hopefully with a bio on Hulett.

Hochevar Starts Today, Will Need Run Support

Posted by: Casey on May 23, 2009.

“Hoch” has yet to look good in his first appearances in the big leagues this year, and there’s no doubt that one or two runs won’t be enough to win. Maybe the fact that the players are thinking the same thing will finally wake up our bats.

I think Hoch is going to get beaten up pretty good in this one, unfortunately. I don’t see the same team that we watched through april-early may. They don’t have the same confidence. Yesterdays lost might have been the worst of the year, in my opinion. Hopefully we can bounce back. Winning these next two games would be a huge bonus for this team.

Meanwhile, punch a Cards fan instead of reminding them of the ‘85 series.

Davies With Solid Start, Royals Offense Sucks, Bullpen Continues Struggles

Royals Lose Again. (AP Photo/Tom Gannam)

Well, the part about the possibility of this weekend being a complete disaster seems to have started. After getting shut out 5-0 by Todd Wellemeyer of all people, this series shapes up to be a bad one.

There were certainly some more questionable decisions made by Hillman again this game. Pinch Hitting Bloomquist for Avilles was an awful decision, at least in my view. As a manager, you can see who’s warming up and you know who the other team has. Regardless of how Avilles has played so far this year, he’s still a much better clutch hitter than Bloomquist. I don’t even get it. Why use Bloomquist there? The next batter was going to be Butler, so there’s no reason to bring someone off the bench.

So many questions for this team.. And now we’re back to .500 .. Hopefully we can pick it up for the game tomorrow. I’m frustrated with the way this team is hitting right now.

It was a good start by Davies, though. After giving up two runs in the first inning, he didn’t give up another and was pinch-hit for in the top of the 7th. It looked like it wasn’t going to be a good night for him, but he pitched well. Again, it was the offense not coming through. The bullpen also gave up 3 more runs tonight, making it 13 runs in 9 innings.

Royals Trip to St. Louis Might Be What Team Needs

Posted by: Casey on May 22, 2009.

The way I look at things, the timing for the series against the Cardinals is coming at a perfect time. Sure, the boys haven’t been playing very well, but I think we have a good chance to turn the recent trend around this weekend. Taking two out of three without Meche and Greinke pitching would be a huge win for us. Anytime we have a series without those two pitching, a series win is great. Add in the fact that it’s the bloody Cardinals, and well that would be wonderful.

Now on the other hand, this series could turn out to be a disaster. The Cards have won three straight, Pujols is still pumping roids with serious results, and like I said, the boys in blue haven’t been very good. The offense is going to have to score some runs this weekend, no doubt about it.
