Zack’s “issues”

Listening to the post game a caller called in and stated that Zack’s wife is his new passion and he’s not as into baseball as in the past. Others have stated it’s the fact his catcher isn’t there (Miguel “Wild Pitch” Olivo). Others are crying run support and yet others (me) think he needs to be represcribed a different anti anxiety pill. Let’s get rid of all the crazy theories and just focus on the numbers.

It’s common knowledge that Zack gets crap for run support and most recently he’s gotten less than crap. He’s gotten absolutely nothing. The score when he left the last 4 games: 7-0, 1-0, 4-0 and 6-0.

Okay two of those games he didn’t help himself but let’s go back to the beginning… I mean really break it down…

So there’s 6 games where he gave up 2 run or less assuming when he gives up 5 runs or more he loses. That leaves us with a 6 – 2 record. One number that stands out is the home run numbers and go-ao numbers.

The one thing though that nobody will point out is Yuni Betancourt has committed at least 3 of the 6 errors on Greinke starts. One was in Texas where Zack had 4 runs scored. 3 of them were earned. One was against Colorado were he botched a double play ball by, get this, not letting go of the ball! They later scored 4 more runs that inning, 3 earned.

Oh and does it need to be pointed out that Brayan Pena caught the only win?

Kendall has done great with 3 of the other 4 pitchers. Kyle Davies, I would totally cut you now if I had a pitcher that could be brought up. Hoch, Banny and now Chen are pitching wonderfully with Kendall. I know I’m leaving out Mr Bursitis himself Gil Meche but really can we just ignore his actions so far this season? For whatever reason Greinke is not getting any help.

Here’s my personal theory: Maybe new anti anxiety drug. Maybe we need to get more than a bunch of slap hitters. Maybe Guillen needs to be “injured” and Kila Kai’ahue (sp?) needs to be brought up. Maybe Rick “K man” Ankiel will provide a spark when he gets back from rehabbing in Omaha, doubtful but possible. Maybe Zack really is distracted by his hot wife. Would that make her the Yoko Ono of the Royals? I hope not. She needs to come to more games. Nice score on that one Zack. Maybe we need to lay off comparing him to last year Zack because his performance was in the Walter Johnson/Fernando Valenzuela calibur of performances. Walter Johnson is considered to be one of the best 3 pitchers in the post 1900 era btw. Fernando had a screwball. No one hits a screwball too well if its thrown right. All things being equal the reason is this:

  1. Cy Young Awards are difficult to win back to back and those that do are HOF calibur.

2. Royals just can’t hit the ace of a pitching staff.

In summation Greinke will do it again but not this year.

Name That Molina

Posted by: Casey on April 19, 2010.

With the Royals playing like, well, the Royals, I decided it was time to play my favorite game. No, the game is not how many comma’s can I use in one sentence. So without further stupidity, let’s see if anyone can correctly (and without cheating) name the 3 Molina brothers as pictured below.

Brother #1

Brother #2 .. This should be easy

And #3..

Good luck.

The Mean Side of “Farnsy”

Why can’t we get some of that nowadays? Guess we don’t pay him enough.

Rick Ankiel: “What?”

Posted by: Casey on April 17, 2010.

Okay, after pointing out that my roomate and I have noticed over the last couple weeks that Rick Ankiel literally looks like he has no idea what is going on, I mention it on twitter and no one believes me. I’m a little disappointed in how few pictures there are on google of Ankiel, but it’ll work either way.

Basically, the next time you see a close up on Ankiel on FSKC, imagine what the dude is thinking..

"What? Who are you?"

"Why are you laughing?"

"Who are these people? Where am I?"

For you, Ethanator.

"What's going on over there?"

"Wow"

Yes.

And I think he’s been more confused since his tenure began with the Royals, perhaps due to that wall incident.

Diehard Royals Fans: I like Rick Ankiel. He just makes being a Royal’s fan that much more tolerable because everytime I see his confused face my cynical ass gets a laugh. It get’s easier once you embrace the little things.

Royals Blank Tigers 9-0, Pavano Sucks Again

Posted by: Casey on June 10, 2009.

Callaspo Crushes Grand Slam In 5th (AP Photo/Tony Dejak)

Hey, now that’s the Carl Pavano I’ve come to love. He doesn’t make it out of the 5th, while giving up 11 hits and 9 runs, all of which came off of home runs. Guillen hit a two run blast, Olivo hit another two run blast, and Callaspo scorched a grand slam, perhaps a fitting grand slam a day after the Indians sunk the Royals with their grand slam from Mark DeRosa.

Not a bad offensive night for the Royals, the most runs they’ve scored in a single game in over a month, plus we got our second win of the road trip. This sets up nicely because Greinke hits the mound tomorrow for the boys in blue, and we have a legitimate chance at winning our first series in the previous 10. Gil Meche was terrific, in a game where we really needed him. He pitched 7 innings, while fanning 11. It was nice to see him pitch so well again.

Hillman Suspended One Game

Posted by: Casey on May 27, 2009.

In a ridiculous decision handed down by MLB, Trey Hillman was suspended one game for reportedly spitting in an umpires eye during this game. The pitcure shown shoes the argument, and when you watch the video, you can see where the umpire backs away from Hillman during the argument.

If you watch the video in slow motion, which FS Royals has showed several times, you can’t see any spit flying through the air.

Okay so lets say he did spit in his eye, you really think this is the first time saliva has been exchanged between a manager and an umpire? Give me a break.. Even if it did go into his eye, it was completely unintentional. This decision is made even more ridiculous by the fact that Hillman was only ejected 3 times all of last year, which was the fewest amount out of any manager in the AL. He’s always respectful to umpires, and he was obviously trying to keep Bloomquist in the game. Now he could have just ran out and been very calm, but the fact is, Hillman was frustrated with how his team was playing and he thought he would just kill two birds with one stone.

Hopefully the Royals can get a win with Davies on the mount, 1:10 first pitch. Davies vs Porcello (whom the Royals beat earlier this year).

What are your thoughts? Apparently managers are not allowed to appeal suspensions, because if they were I’m sure Hillman would appeal, judging on how royally pissed he is. This is very uncharacteristic, but I would like to state that I noted before that Hillman would start to show some more emotion.
